Creative duo launch new bilingual book for children

Crewe-based Spanish teacher Kelly Thornhill has teamed up with an award-winning children’s author to publish the second in a series of bilingual books for youngsters.

Kelly, who runs Adventures in Spanish, has been working in collaboration with Liverpool-based author and storyteller Jude Lennon for several months to complete the new book called ‘Fernando Can Tango’.

It follows the adventures of a Flamingo called Valentina who is desperate to take part in the annual Argentinian Tango celebrations but is unable to find a dance partner. That is until she meets Fernando – the dancing jaguar.

It’s the second in a series of books aimed at helping children learn Spanish and follows on from Kelly and Jude’s debut picture book ‘Am I Nearly There Yet?’ which was released last year.

Children attending Kelly’s Spanish classes have contributed to the book by providing the colourful illustrations.

They and other members of the community are now being invited to attend the official book launch which will take place at Sandbach Library, on November 13, at 4pm. The event is also a Learning Destination for the Children’s University.

Jude, who is the owner of Little Lamb Tales, an Amazon Bestseller and also Disney Winnie the Pooh Laureate for the North West, will read the story in English whilst Kelly will give a reading of the book in Spanish.

Kelly said: “It’s been absolutely wonderful working with Jude and the children on this second bilingual book. Our first book ‘Are We Nearly There Yet?’ has proved to be a real hit with youngsters over the last 12 months and we are certain the children will love the tale of ‘Fernando Can Tango’. It will really capture their imaginations.”

Jude, who is a member of Team Author UK – an alliance of professionals helping writers to publish their own books – added: “It’s been great fun working on this second book with Kelly. The children have really brought the story to life with their fabulous illustrations and we can’t wait to share the book with the rest of the community at the launch next month.”
