Sue Miller, the founder of Team Author UK, is in the running for an Exceptional Service Award at the Bizmums Conference and Awards 2017 which recognises the achievements of mothers in business.
The 50-year-old who lives near Mold, is also shortlisted for the Networking Mum of the Year gong after many years of connecting business women in the North West across a multitude of sectors and supporting others to leverage work.
It follows a successful year in business for editor and mum-of-three Sue, who set up the Team Author UK alliance in June 2016, with the sole aim of helping independent writers to become published authors.
In the first 12 months of the business, Team Author UK helped publish 30 plus books, many of which have gone on to become Amazon bestsellers.
Through an established network of professionals, the business provides expertise to authors in a number of areas including editing, proofing, illustrations, marketing, PR and web design.
Team Author UK also provides regular workshops for writers to improve their skills and hosts an annual writing retreat.
The alliance supports writers across the UK but with a particular focus on the North West region. To date Sue has worked with authors of all genres based in North Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire and Merseyside, but has also worked with writers in Scotland, Yorkshire and the South of England.
Sue said: “I’ve always been passionate about helping people to write and publish books and Team Author UK started out as a very simple concept to do just that. I had no idea it would take off so quickly.
“Over the last 12 months the business has seen phenomenal growth and we have a team of more than ten professionals now working with the business to provide expertise and a range of services to authors to help them achieve as much success as possible with their books.
“We guide them through the complicated process of self-publishing step by step and one of the key benefits of our focus being on the North West is the close personal contact we maintain with our authors throughout this process.
“Once they have their physical paperback or e-book, this support continues as we help to market it and drive up sales, which can often be the tricky bit for many self-published writers.”
“The Bizmums Network has been invaluable in helping to grow the Team Author team and I’m delighted to be shortlisted for not one but two awards at the forthcoming ceremony. I have met so many resourceful and professional businesswomen through the network and without their support Team Author UK certainly wouldn’t be where it is today.”
Sue, who also edits the new Mama Life luxury parenting magazine based in Staffordshire, says the next 12 months were set to be equally as exciting for Team Author UK with lots of plans afoot to grow the business further.
She added: “We have lots of exciting plans for the future which will hopefully see more of our authors working in collaboration. We have our second writing retreat coming up in November and we are continuing to grow our team of professionals.”
The Bizmums annual Conference and Awards ceremony will be held on October 8 in Cheshire.
